Soul Challenges

I call “soul challenges” the things each soul is born wanting to accomplish in this lifetime.

The period after self-awareness recognizes “I am born” and starts experiencing this subjective world is called the current life.
On the other hand, what happened before you recognized “I am born” is called a past life.

I’ll follow these common terms in the explanations below.

Challenges Arising from Past-Life Experience

Soul challenges are created from experiences in past lives.

What are past-life experiences? They are the information, or soul memories, accumulated through the soul’s interaction with the subjective world in those lives.

The Essential Desires of the Soul

Every soul has universal, essential desires.

That is, the desire to return to cosmic consciousness.

More specifically, the essence is to seek peaceful happiness, calm satisfaction, freedom, and openness of consciousness.

So the basic motivation comes from there.

But some people may not feel that way.
Some may feel they are seeking more stimulation, passion, or emotion.

This is due to surface-level consciousness (the thoughts, feelings, and values self-awareness recognizes as “me”), and the values formed through life experiences.

In modern society, many things promote stimulation, intense emotion, and excitement as happiness or enjoyment. By being exposed to these, people come to believe that is where happiness and enjoyment are.

This isn’t just modern society—people had similar experiences in past lives. Information has been received over time.

So they come to believe there is value in those things.

We tend to mistake even our thoughts, feelings, and bodies—which are just parts of the subjective world—for our true selves.
In the same way, we often misunderstand what is truly comfortable for our self-awareness.

This is why essential and surface desires become misaligned.

But should you immediately return to your essential desires? In reality, even if you understand this logically, it’s hard to just “choose” it. Trying to force yourself just leads to frustration and repression.

If you can recognize this, your soul is probably already at a stage where it seeks true happiness.

If not, it means your self-awareness isn’t satisfied yet.
In other words, your soul is still trapped by false happiness.

The Four Types of Soul Challenges

Soul challenges differ for each person.

Some souls aim to experience something, while others aim to let go of something.

They may seem like opposites, but both are actions for the soul to seek happiness.

Step 1: Experience

To experience something is the first step in seeking happiness.

The soul believes its wish will be fulfilled through experience, so it strives to achieve happiness by getting that experience.

It starts by desiring happiness through illusion.
If it didn’t have that illusion, it wouldn’t start, but once a soul carries that challenge, the fire of passion cannot be extinguished. It must be lived out.

Step 2: Letting Go

Letting go of something comes after experiencing it.

Through experiences, the soul accumulates plenty of memories related to those experiences. So when it wants to leave or let go of those experiences, it must now erase those factors.

This process often brings struggle and difficulty.

But it’s because self-awareness is tired of those experiences that the process of letting go arises.

Step 3: Realization

After going through the previous two steps, self-awareness has experienced a wide range of things and letting go, and realizes that true happiness cannot be found anywhere in the subjective world.

At this point, self-awareness may feel emptiness about life, or a sense of lack or not belonging.

If it can recognize the true nature of the world, it may move forward, but if not, self-awareness often gets stuck in social conventions, thinks the sense of emptiness is “weird,” and goes back to seeking more experiences.

But true happiness likely won’t be found there anymore.

It results in living with a sense of lack and something out of place.

Step 4: Help from Higher Beings

When a soul reaches Step 3, higher beings spread many seeds around the world, trying to guide it toward true happiness. If the soul can connect with that, it can enter the process of returning to cosmic consciousness.

In this way, soul challenges can generally be divided into four steps.
